Job Overview:

The Operations Coordinator (OC) orchestrates and oversees daily barge fleet operations and is responsible for tracking and reporting all inbound/outbound movements, researching barge position information and determine load/unloading schedules. Other tasks and responsibilities include but not limited to:

 

Planning, coordinating and managing inland barge movements of industrial dry bulk, liquid bulk chemicals, steel and breakbulk cargoes
Positioning barges according to the shippers’ respective needs and provide the ships’ ETA
Tracking barges along the river system and communicating their positions on regular basis to shippers and client terminal locations, etc.
Coordinating tow schedules, tracking loading and unloading activities; midstream-in/midstream-out.
Release barges back to barge lines upon completion.
Audit and vet barge freight, demurrage and process all related invoices
 

Job Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Transportation or Logistics
Work experience in transportation or related field; familiar with basic logistics, ship, barge and terminal operations. 
Strong computer skills required: Outlook, Excel, Word. Experience with ERP systems (example AX, SAP) is useful.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently on multiple issues 
Results-oriented with a high sense of urgency
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, ability to exercise creativity
Detail oriented with the ability to enter and report data accurately
Ability to work after normal business hours when necessary
